Dr. Chanel Nettle

Dr. Nettle earned her Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of California, Riverside’s School of Education. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from UCLA, where she also completed double minors in Applied Developmental Psychology and Disability Studies.
Her research focuses broadly on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in education and mental health. Her areas of interest include: autism, equitable and accessible assessments for families of color and those with support needs; early childhood education and student-teacher relationships for autistic students—particularly students of color; post-secondary outcomes for autistic students; educational inequities; and neuro-affirming mental health practices. Her dissertation examined the schooling and mental health challenges experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic, comparing general education and special education students, with a focus on the experiences of autistic students and their families.
Clinically, Dr. Nettle specializes in neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and ADHD, and has extensive experience with comprehensive psychoeducational assessments, school-based interventions, behavioral and mental health therapy, social skills training, parent coaching, and implementing neuro-affirming practices.
During graduate school, she interned part-time at the Center for Pediatric Neuropsychology in Los Angeles, CA, where she conducted neuropsychological evaluations and Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs), and delivered teletherapy social coaching using the UCLA PEERS® program, under the supervision of Vindia Fernandez, Ph.D. (PSY28365). She also completed a full-time school-based internship with East Side Union High School District in San Jose, CA, where she provided psychoeducational assessments, counseling, and school-based interventions.
